Born in 1902, Sally Michel Avery knew by the age of five that she wanted to be an artist. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she studied Art at the Art Students League, and spent summers painting in Gloucester, MA. In 1924, she spent the summer painting in East Gloucester, where she met and fell in love with fellow artist Milton Avery.
