Stella Farwell

Stella Farwell attributes the development of her work to her travels, the natural environment and a candid battle with ovarian cancer. While the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments have altered her initial plans, her creativity has been stretched to discover new methodologies in expression. Farwell executes her plans in two and three dimensional planes. The organically-wrought surfaces are selectively chosen: hand-made paper, acrylic, metal and stone. The end result are intensely personal observations brought from the recesses of a suffering body, but a highly acute mind in producing aesthetic dialogues.

Stella Farwell was born in 1939 and raised in New Orleans. She pursued her studies in fine art at Tulane University. Farwell speaks publicly about her long contention with ovarian cancer and utilizes her practice as a platform for awareness to her local community on Captiva Island in Florida.
